'80s Dress, Part II

Remember this '80s dress from a few weeks ago that I love so, so much? Well, here is the other awesome '80s dress I scored earlier this fall at Ricky's Place, in Rochester, NY.

I'm such a sucker for heathered gray anything; throw in a soft wool jersey, and I'm sold. Case in point: this dress was at least three sizes too big when I found it. But, I so loved the puffy shoulders (complete with some pretty MAJOR shoulder pads), pretty frog closure at the neck, and just-below-the-knee length, that I bought it anyway, knowing that my amazing tailors could fix it right up for me.

Yesterday was the first day I wore the dress after finally getting it altered two weeks ago, and overall I love how this look came together. Although I planned to wear it with its self-tie belt, I feel like the waist should be nipped in a bit more, so I instead cinched it with this corset belt, which--along with the drapey chain necklace--took the look from being a little too Junior League, circa 1985, and made it perfect for a cold December day in 2009.

Here's what I'm wearing: merino jersey dress, vintage Talbot's; crinkle patent corset belt, Target from last year; gray sweater tights, Hue; crinkle patent and suede boots, Via Spiga from last year; pearl earrings, JC Penney; from about eight years ago; Avery chains and pearl necklace, Stella & Dot.

  3. Love that dress, it really suits you. I have a very similar vintage one in BRIGHT red that I shortened to mid thigh. You just can't beat vintage. :)
