Foxy Friday Twin Post

A couple of weeks ago I came across this really beautiful image of twin foxes and, of course, immediately saved it for an upcoming Foxy Friday, never imagining that I would be using it in a post where I would tell you guys that the hubby and I are having twins!!!

We found out we were pregnant back in December, but just learned about the twins two weeks ago. We are feeling so thrilled and blessed and overwhelmed (well...I'm overwhelmed, anyway). It's been a really long, hard road to get here (more on that at a future date), and that just makes it all the more exciting.

I'm sicker than a dog and beyond exhausted, so I hope you'll forgive me for my VERY sporadic posting and lack of e-mail-checking the last few weeks. Most days it's all I can do to get myself to work and then I come home, try to eat dinner and am asleep most nights by about 7 o'clock. It seems the first trimester is all about survival at it's most basic!

Next week I promise I will pick back up my tips for staying healthy and will tell you more about this baby business, but now I'm too nauseous from my lunch to type any more! LOL

Have a great weekend, ladies ! Many Xs and Os!

Foxy Friday

This post has been in my drafts file for a while with just a URL for the website of this really cool recycled/reinvented clothing line called Stone_Cold_Fox. I had stumbled upon this line via someone's blog month's ago because her sister is one of the designers, but silly me, I didn't bother to make note of how I found it...all of which is slightly irrelevant because what I really want to write about is how beautiful the SCF clothes are (but you all are used to me being slightly long-winded by now, right?!).

Since the early days of Imitation of Christ, I have been such a fan of the concept of giving vintage clothes a new, completely different life, and the girls at SCF are doing it with with gorgeous details, a modern perspective and a design aesthetic that mixes pretty and edgy in a way I always find enviable. I love how the cardigan in the first picture reminds me of a vintage chenille bed jacket that's been reincarnated as a sexier, deconstructed version of itself. Check out their site and let me know what you think.

Have wonderful weekend, ladies!!! The windchill is supposed to be under zero here tomorrow, so I guess I'll hunker down and finally pack away my Christmas decorations...I'm feeling like a total loser because they are still up. xo

Foxy Friday

The hubby and I finally made it to see Fantastic Mr. Fox this week, and OH MY GOODNESS it was one of the cutest movies I've seen in a long time. Fabulous cast (Clooney! Streep! Schwartman!), with a lovely, uplifting story that's totally reaffirming for all us nonconformists out there, and adorable, old school animation. Seriously, go see this movie!!!

And the reality is, I'm pretty sure I'm going to like everything Jason Schwartzman does. I think he's hilarious and so, so cute. I think I have a major crush on him, and I'm now obsessed with the name Ash (the name of his character in this movie). (As an aside, please tell me you watched Bored to Death this fall if you have HBO? If not, get the dvd as soon as it comes out. Seriously. It's hands down the best thing Ted Danson has ever done, and the Schwartz is just darling.)

Foxy Friday

I am no snowboarder. Not even close. But that doesn't mean I wouldn't wear this way-too-cute fox hat to stave off the bitter Upstate NY chill. (Cold can really mess with your sense of decorum!)

This hat may be slightly more suited to a non-snowboarding lady 32 years in age, but it would be too hard to navigate the attached capelet around my giant down coat. (Plus the dominatrix-y styling is intimidating/scaring me!)

And in completely un-hat-related foxy cuteness, I offer this felt fox wall hanging. Look at his little scarf! I simply die....

Foxy Friday

I am so excited I can hardly focus this morning. Tonight, the hubby and I are going to see the silver fox--as I call him (okay, I actually just came up with that, but it's apropos nonetheless, isn't it?)--Anthony Bourdain, speak in Rochester. Reading Kitchen Confidential many years ago rekindled my interest in all things culinary in a major way, so despite our extreme philosophical differences regarding meat, I respect this man so much (plus, as I already mentioned, I think he's a total hottie).

Our weekend agenda also includes post-Tony drinks and snacks at Good Luck (count me in for a Corpse Reviver (sounds scary, huh?) and the roasted beet tart!), finding the earliest possible matinee of New Moon on Saturday (only Tony would keep me from going tonight), spending Saturday afternoon and Sunday with my best friend from college and her two little boys in Buffalo, and finally going to see Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's tour-ending show on Sunday night.

Whew! It's a full (but fun!) one! What have you got planned?

Foxy Friday

I love the contrast of the black, silhouetted, kinda-scary fox and the delicate wreath of flowers in this print.

Foxy Friday

This week's Foxy Friday is very bitterly brought to you by GapKids' recent collaboration with Stella McCartney. I say bitterly because I lovelovelove everything and wonder whywhywhy Gap can't make many of these same items in adult sizes?

I'd wear any of this...

sigh....

The distress of not getting to wear these clothes myself (or having a little one to dress in them!) is slightly eased by all the amazing photos of the kids with the animals in the lookbook on Gap.com...my fave, of course, being the fox!

Foxy Friday

I came across two totally cute, totally foxy items this week that I just had to share:

I found this sweet little linen pouch in one of my favorite local vintage stores, Petrune, but you can also get it in Track and Field Designs' Etsy shop. I keep a little cosmetic bag this size in my purse to hold all my miscellany, and the one I'm currently using is just about worn out. This might have to be its replacement!

The next foxy item was found in the most unexpected of places: Gander Mountain (where I ventured with the hubby, being the intrepid wife that I am)!

Although the tag said he was a 'coyote', he looks relatively foxy to me! Regardless, he'd be a perfect snuggle buddy for a long flight or car trip, don't you think?

Foxy Friday

Coming up with a Halloween costume hasn't really been on my radar screen because I didn't think we'd have an opportunity to dress up this year. But now we're going to a Halloween bonfire tomorrow night (so fun!), which will require us to both be in costume and be bundled up.

I wish I had a foxy mask like the one on the right. I'm sure I could build a warm, cute costume around it!

Are you thinking about your Halloween costume?

Foxy Friday Guest Post

Hi there. My name is Zelda. And this is Foxy Lady. She's my favorite toy. I love her so much that I've pulled off her tail and completely removed all her stuffing.

Wanna play?

Foxy Friday

I always say that I'm going to start directing some of my antiquing/flea marketing budget towards starting a Bakelite collection (which, in the long run, would probably end up being worth more than my IRA, so perhaps I should consider re-allocating those funds!). We have a local antique mall with a vendor who has an amazing selection, and I stand in front of her display case, getting it all drool-y and finger-printed, every time we go. I even have a plan that when I'm much older I will wear all black and the biggest, most guady Bakelite accessories--in layers, no less. So I figure I should get started now, you know?

Stumbling upon these two fox-themed Bakelite pieces, that are sadly way out of my price range, has inspired me even more:

Bakelite Fox Brooch, Morning Glory Jewelry

Bakelite Fox Bangle, Morning Glory Antiques

Happy Foxy Friday!

Foxy Friday

Since I started the week out talking about needle crafts, I thought I'd end it with this adorable cross-stitched fox pin. How sweet and fallish would this be on the lapel of a tweed blazer?

I hope you have exciting weekend plans. We're off to New Jersey tonight to pay a visit to the hubby's homeland. In true Jersey style, we're going to see Bruce Springsteen at Giants Stadium tomorrow night with the inlaws and the hubby's bff from high school and his wife. That means tailgating, beer, my mom-in-law's amazing pressed sandwiches (I'll take pix and get the recipe for you!), beer, squid salad, beer, the set list including the Born in the USA album being played in its entirety (I'm actually not as excited about this as I should be--I fear it means I won't hear my favorites, like Thudercrack), more beer, and probably a cold next week from the fact that we'll being doing all of this IN THE POURING RAIN! YIPPPPEEEE!!!

See you Monday!

Foxy Friday

The Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse has Fennec foxes, and I've been obsessed with them ever since our first visit there. Their tiny, pointed faces, over-sized ears, and miniature size just melts my heart. Every time we go to the zoo, I ask the hubby repeatedly if I can take one home for a cuddle.

So imagine my delight when I just found this Fennec fox hand embroidered wall hanging in MuchoDesign's Etsy shop. Of all the unusual and adorable things I've stumbled upon on Etsy, this has to be one of the best finds yet. But I suppose it would be kind of hard to snuggle with a piece of art, huh?

Foxy Friday

Remember how last Friday I said I was hanging on to summer 'til the bitter end? This adorable watercolor by Renee Nault makes me change my mind. I'd love to spend an autumn afternoon with a good book, a tart, crisp apple from Cornell Orchards, and a frolicking fox, wouldn't you?
