Darlingtonia Moccasin Co.'s Hitchcock Moccasins...these will be perfect for chasing after two crazy toddlers in the very near future, don't you think?

Sandal Shopping

It's so sunny and gorgeous here today!!! I actually have my fave open-toe booties on and am loveloveloving it! I typically ban socks around March 15, but that can sometimes be an imprudent decision when it's April and still only in the 30s (sadly, often the case in Upstate New York). But with tomorrow and Saturday predicted to be in the low 80s (YES!!!), I'm now itching to pull out all my spring and summer shoes and add a few new lovelies to the collection.

Top on my list are these adorable espadrilles. I've been searching for the perfect espadrilles for at least three years, but every pair I've found has been either sky-high or really stiff and uncomfortable--or both. But last month I did some searching online and found the site Espadrilles, Etc. This site sells the real thing--every style and color combo you could imagine, all made in Spain. I love the bright stripes in this pair and can imagine wearing them with just about everything in my summer wardrobe, but for this year, I think they'll work nicely on swollen, hot pregnant feet!

I bought my first pair of Corso Como sandals last summer, and it was an instant love affair. They were unquestionably the most comfortable sandals I've ever owned. So this year I want to add this taupey-grey and silver pair to the mix. I love the over-sized buckles, and I'm still majorly in love with the sliver wedge.

Words cannot express how much I love this cutie from Kelsi Dagger. The grey snakeskin t-strap would have been adorable enough on its own, but when you pair it with a band of ruched salmon leather, I just can't resist!

And last but not least--the workhorse of the bunch--the flip flop. I have to tell you that three years ago I bought a pair of rubber Tory Burch flip flops, and I thought at $45 it was a completely stupid purchase considering I'd previously spent the same amount on my Eliza B. flip flops that are handmade and super, super sturdy (I bought my first pair 7 or 8 years ago and they still look like new!). Three years later I am amazed at how awesomely the TB's have held up, so I'm going back for another pair. Now that I'm finally daring to wear animal prints, I think I'll go with this black leopard print.

What shoes are on your shopping list for spring/summer?

Shoe of the Day

Anyone know what genius designed this shoe? If so, please let me know so I can start sending him/her love letters. I've had this picture in my Tumblr likes file for a couple of weeks now, and I can't stop drooling over it!!!

Shoe of the Day + Midweek MidCentury: Going Mod

Clarks Herring Ballet Flat

Stock is getting low on these sweet peach ballet flats from Clarks (another can-you-believe-it? shoe find!) pretty much everywhere, and I must have them for spring!!! (I know you all understand that I'm already thinking about my spring/summer wardrobe when it's not even Christmas yet, right?)

I'm envisioning starting to transition my wardrobe into a much more neutral color palate this spring, buying only a few clean, mod-inspired pieces in black, navy, cream/white, and peach, because I feel like my wardrobe is too fussy and has way too much going on. Do you ever feel that way?

This plan is mainly inspired by this incredible jacket I picked up from Leproust Vintage last month:

It's hanging in my coat closet and taunting me each and every time I go in there. I can wait to wear it with a navy or black a-line sheath and these little flats!

Shoe of the Day

The hubby just sent me a link to these Vans Death to the Pixies slip-ons. We're die-hard Pixies fans, but the hubby says a picture of Black Francis staring up at him from his shoes would give him nightmares. I, on the other hand, think I must have a pair. Aren't they the coolest?

She Who Hesitates, Loses Cute Shoes

I've mentioned in the past my running list of shoes that I revisit on Amazon and various other sites. Well, I just scrolled through it thinking that a new pair of kicks might brighten my week and stumbled across this gorgeous navy Wallaby from BCBG MaxAzria. I coveted them all last winter, but refused to pay full price...and now they are sold out in my size!!! What's the opposite of buyer's remorse--because that's what I'm feeling!

When making a purchase, how do you decide when to splurge and when to wait?

Come on Pilgrim

What are you planning to wear for Thanksgiving? Wouldn't a pair of pilgrim-inspired shoes be perfect?

I found all of these on Etsy and love the idea of pairing them with a '60s sheath or mini-skirt and turtleneck for a Mayflower-meets-Dark Shadows kind of a look.

J. Jill...really?!

This is going to be a very picture-heavy post because...wow...I could not decide which of these adorable shoes from J. Jill to feature. They are all so lovely, simple, classic, special, and modern (see...I'm so giddy that I can't even choose an adjective!!!).

There are few things I love more than a wedge, and these are just so pretty. I think they'd look equally good with either skinny jeans or a cocktail dress (which makes them a necessity, don't you think?).

Oh my...sigh. I can't even write about this pair. I'm head over heels.

These have a slight orthopedic-vibe, but I've already confessed that I'm kind of into that. I can't decide if I like them better in the bone...

or the black (which means I probably need both, don't you think? lol)

A classic skimmer in gray suede. My ultimate shoe...

but then again, there's this little gray Mary Jane....

If there's something I love almost as much as a wedge, it's a Wallabee-style shoe. These feel a little sleeker than the classic Clarks and that aubergine color is just gorgeous.

Hey, Santa...head on over to J. Jill, 'kay?

Shoe of the Day

For as long as I can remember I've had a shoe crush on creepers. Something about that thick crepe sole and pointy toe makes my heart skip a beat. I find them totally charming on boys (I prefer them with too-short, black Dickies), but--as with so many things--I think they look even better on a girl. The girl who dares tackle a shoe as serious as creepers has, in my opinion, confidently honed her style because these shoes are, undoubtedly, A LOOK. This girl has got it right: ankle length pants, simple tee, tough hair and accessories. I've got tons of sartorial envy right now.

But for those of us who don't dare tackle a real creeper, there are lots of options right now to make this look more approachable. Why not get a pair of men's vintage shoes, particularly two-toned, crepe-soled oxfords from the '40s? (When searching just make sure the toe is more pointed than rounded.) I also think a lot of women's shoes from the late '80s or early '90s have a creeper-ish feel, especially with a buckled strap.

Feeling like you want your creepers more inspired than literal? Check out these booties from 3.1. Phillip Lim and Emma Cook for TopShop.

Or how about a creeperish sandal from Deena and Ozzy?

Shoe of the Day

Faryl Robin Fabienne, Fall 2009

I scored these little ankle booties in Chicago, and I pretty much love everything about them, especially the hidden wedge and the subtle studding around the back flap. I think they are the perfect blend of refined and rock n' roll, cool and comfort.

But then I saw these lovelies and swooned. The greedy girl in me so wishes they were mine. I mean, why be refined? Just rock, baby!

Shoe of the Day

Curse you, Christian Louboutin! I've never lusted after your shoes because being just shy of 6' tall makes wearing 4" heels seem insane. But flats? FLATS WITH ZIPPERS AND STUDS?!?! A hex upon you, sir!!!

Shoe of the Day

Sam Edelman Yee Pump, Fall 2008

Words really cannot express how much I love these shoes, perhaps partially because I bought them last fall to complete a very, very, very special outfit, so they've got significant memories attached to them. But regardless of sentimentality, I think I'd love them anyway because they:
  • are the most perfect shade of cadet blue suede, which I've found to be a versatile color in a shoe.
  • have such a fun, retro vibe and are adorable with skirts/dresses, but also look great styled kind of punky with some skinny black jeans.
  • have a heel that's high enough to make me feel fancy, but isn't crazy-high (an important shoe-buying factor for someone who is 5'11").
  • have a rubber non-skid sole (gotta love funcationality in such a cute package!).
  • make my feet feel like Minnie Mouse every time I wear them.

I don't know about you, but I don't need any more reasons than that to fall in love.

Change of Heart

So remember last week when I said I NEVER wear animal prints, but was really digging that leopard-print kimono jacket? Well, I think I'm having a change of heart.

This week I bought a leopard belt at Target, resurrected a leopard headband from my drawer of misfit accessories, and am now obsessed with how I can get my hands on these Alexander Wang Spring 2010 wedges. How quickly things can change!

Shoe of the Day

All Black Dani Loafer, Spring/Summer 2009

These loafers are just so nerdy--which means I fell in love as soon as I saw them. Plus, I am obsessed with cognac leather right now. It's my new favorite neutral for accessories. I feel like it gives more of a punch and looks more rich than simply wearing chocolate or another shade of brown. I'm expecially loving these loafers with my skinny grey jeans and a vintage ivory wool boyfriend jacket.

Shoe of the Day

Dolce Vita Granite Wedge, Spring 2009

I discovered Dolce Vita shoes about three or four years ago and instantly became a big fan. I've collected several pairs and am amazed by the high-end details and quality construction you get at a really nice price point. I've actually managed to score a couple of pairs out-of-season for practically nothing (last year's laser-cut seahorse sandals? I got them for $13 from Amazon!!!).

I bought these booties from Urban Outfitters in March to complete a very special outfit and pretty much didn't stop wearing them until around June, when I decided to give them a rest until fall. They are so, so comfortable, look great with literally everything, and are the most versatile shade of taupe-y grey.

Best part? They're still available if you want them. I could easily be talked into purchasing a back-up!

Shoe of the Day

Frye Ada Pump, Spring 2008

I used to sell a clothing line (WorthWear) and every season I would display shoes (which I would conveniently order in my size) that I felt worked best with that collection. I quickly found that I was a lot better at styling/merchandising the collections than selling them and, sadly, gave that venture up a few months ago.

Anyhoo…I ordered in these adorable retro-inspired pumps in the spring of 2008. I obsessed about them long after they went back to Zappos and was able to score them for 1/2 off in early January 2009 (my wait-and-see list at work once again!). They are very, very sweet with a skirt or dress—almost too sweet for me, so I like to wear them best with wide-legged trousers, a silk cami, and a vintage jacket.

Shoe of the Day

Faryl Robin Betty, Summer 2007

I admittedly don’t have a very good memory…but one thing I don’t forget is shoes. I saw these babies two summers ago on the Cape and spent a lot of time since then regretting that I didn’t get them. Then—lo and behold, this spring they showed up on Overstock! Good things come to those who wait!

Later this week I’ll show you how I’m wearing these in Chicago. Happy Monday!

Shoe of the Day

Frye Mary Metal Beads Thong, Summer 2008

I found these lovely ladies last December on Amazon for a fraction of their original price. It felt odd buying sandals before Christmas, but I plan ahead like that…especially for beautiful, simple shoes like these. I just love how the edges look like raw zipper and, being Frye, they are super, super comfy.

After finding these (and a couple other steals at the same time), I started a shopping list folder where I keep links to things I really, really like, but that are priced a bit higher than I want to pay. I periodically go back to the list and search for sales. I’ve scored some really great deals that way.
